Contemporary art gallery in Via Margutta

Sesto Senso Art Gallery has been promoting young rising artists as well as those well-established in the contemporary art scene since it opened in 2008. In 2013 the Gallery moved to Via Margutta, the old center of Rome’s foreigners quarter which is now widely known as the artists’ quarter. Sesto Senso believes that each artwork must be beautiful for beauty’s sake, that it should go beyond temporary trends and always be able to evoke a sixth sense in the eye of the beholder. They are not limited to visual arts but also organize events about poetry, literature, photography music, sculpture and design.

Among the many artists collaborating with Sesto Senso are Antonio Tamburro, Mario Sughi, Vanni Saltarelli, Nag Arnoldi, Giorgio Celiberti, Gigino Falconi, Paul Beel, Friedrich Eigner, Raffaello Ossola, Irene Petrafesa, Marco Tamburro.

Sesto Senso has an e-shop, an international delivery service and offer a free consulting service to try out their artworks in various spaces before a purchase is made. They also offer wedding list service and rent their art works for long periods of time.

Le Muse by Antonio Tamburro. Opening October 28

As a part of Rome Art Week (Oct. 24 – 29) it will be possible to admire a new artwork by Antonio Tamburro at Sesto Senso Art Gallery. Among some of his masterpieces, a new large painting will be on display: The muses (78.8×78.8 inches), will be revealed to the public on Friday, Oct. 28, with the presence of the artist.

The work shows six women in a minimal context; only few elements and a white drapery in the upper left corner characterize the setting; the garments of the female figures are masterfully realized to highlight the female bodies without excess. The simplicity and rigor of the composition brings out more of the melancholy tones and temperament of the characters depicted. The six “muses” in the painting are contemporary heroines inspired by the protagonists of Greek tragedy: Medea, Helen, Phaedra, Antigone, Electra, and Hecuba, important female characters challenging the role of women in the historical Greek society, but (at the same time) also with the drama of not being able to fulfill themselves as women. These courageous women become paradigms at once of the tragic and of the idea of a profound self-sacrifice, and they stand opposite to each other in Tamburro’s canvas.

Regali ad Arte. Opening December 9. Until December 31

On Dec. 9, the exhibition Gifts to Art, curated by Barbara Tamburro, will be presented to the public, featuring some previously unseen paintings on paper by artist Antonio Tamburro along with a selection of works by such historicized artists as Giosetta Fioroni, Mirko Basaldella, Toti Scialoja, Carla Accardi and Domenico Cantatore.
