TOUR ITINERARY
Gorgeous crystal clear blue water, breathtaking views, relaxing ambience… isn’t this what you had in mind when you booked your trip to Italy? While the beaches near Rome are nothing to get excited about – Ponza Island, a tiny, hidden Mediterranean island paradise just a few hours from Rome is everything you imagined and more.
Your day starts early, but you’ll soon be rewarded for the effort. This day trip from Rome kicks off near the Piramide metro stop with a 7:00AM start. Here you’ll meet your expert English-speaking tour leader. After check-in, board an air conditioned transfer to Rome’s nearest port, just an hour ride away in a seaside town called Anzio. Here, we’ll board a comfortable fast ferry to Ponza Island. The cost of the ferry is 50 euro per person and is not included in the tour price. The ferry tickets must be paid at check in. The ride lasts about 1.5 hours, and is a great moment to catch a brief snooze in preparation for the adventurous day ahead.
We’ll arrive in Ponza at approximately 10:15AM and have a brief break to eat breakfast (own expense) or pick up any last minute items or snacks to bring on the next leg of our journey. At 11AM we’ll board an excursion boat with other travellers – for the most part Italian vacationers – and begin our circumnavigation of the entire island. Our expert captain, a local Ponzan, will adjust our itinerary according to the wind and waves to get the most out of our day and stick to the calmest waters where we’ll be most comfortable.
Looking for a more exclusive experience? Book the small group upgrade to guarantee a boat excursion with no more than 12 lucky participants.
The 5 hour boat excursion will cover Ponza’s most important sights – hidden coves, spectacular rock formations and a plethora of blue grottoes which, if we’re lucky we’ll even swim inside! You Tour leader is an expert in Ponza’s fascinating history and geology and will translate all commentary make by your Ponzan captain who only speaks Italian. Sights might include the Arco Naturale (Natural Arch), Lucia Rosa’s cove & beach, the Guard’s Light House (one of the oldest and most important in Italy) and Moon Rock Beach – the spectacular and famous “Chiaia di Luna”. We’ll make 4-5 stops for about 30 minutes each time to swim and snorkel at the best stops.
During the trip, our captain and his first mate will prepare a simple and delicious pasta lunch which will be served picnic-style on deck, with water, wine and even a traditional Italian espresso. Pasta not your thing? Make sure you pick up a sandwich or snack in the morning at Ponza’s port.
The boat excursion will conclude at approximately 4PM after which we’ll have an hour of free time to explore Ponza‘s busy, colorful port with its many shops and cafe’s. It’s a great time to grab a gelato or even a flute of prosecco to celebrate a day well spent.
Sad to leave, we’ll board the same fast ferry we took to Ponza back to the port of Anzio where our transfer back to Rome will be waiting for us. We will reach the Piramide metro stop around 8:00-8:30PM.

The trip started early at 7am. We have been picked up from the meeting point by a private bus. The journey to Anzio (which looks like a great sea side town)took around an hour, we’ve then boarded a ferry to Ponza (also around an hour). Everything went smoothly and we didn’t wait at all. We had 5 swimming spots and during the trip our guide shared interesting facts about the island. We had a pasta lunch with water/wine and at the end of it all an amazing cofee (best I’ve ever had). We got back around 4pm for some free time on the island. The only food place that was opened at that time was a small pizza place, but the food was stunning. Ponza is like a little time machine so relaxing and unspoilt by the commercial tourism. If you have a spare day and you’ve had enough of Rome dont hesitate and go.
SWIMMING OFF PONZA ISLAND –
What a wonderful day! The weather was perfect and so was the trip. We stopped at 5 different areas to swim. Ate pasta and drank a little wine. A great relief from the sun and heat. Our guide Gina was friendly and helpful.

Firstly I want to say a massive thank you to Gina, absolutely fantastic tour guide full of knowledge and also very encouraging as I was nervous to get in the water and snorkel. I would recommend this experience to everyone it’s a once in a life time thing to do! Thanks so much Gina truly a star, the actual Island of Ponza is a beautiful place, I couldn’t of spent my 30th birthday in a better way.

We had a fantastic experience! Kimberly was our guide and she was friendly and helpful from our first meeting at Eco Art through our time on Ponza Island. She was knowledgeable about general questions about Italy and its culture as well as history of Ponza Island and the geological features around the island. We had a small group of 8 in our tour group and my mom has a difficult time hearing, especially over ambient noise; Kimberly did an excellent job coming and talking with her and our group closely after the captain spoke on the loud speaker about some of the points of interest, historical features and stories/folk lore. Kimberly also was well aware of the swimming grotto’s and was able to show us some great areas to swim and look for aquatic life while snorkeling. She was friendly, up beat and passionate about sharing her knowledge of the island which makes her a fantastic guide. It was our last day of our vacation and she helped make it one of the best! Thanks for sharing such a beautiful place with us…we feel privileged to have experienced it.

My son and I toured Italy for 10 days and it was fascinating. As great as everything was, our Ponza Island excursion was the BEST! Absolutely stunning views, beautiful water, swimming, snorkeling, and our guide were all fantastic! Our guide, Kimberly was so accommodating and made us feel welcome and comfortable our entire trip. She was also super informative. The trip was well planned as we never felt rushed and had ample time at each stop to swim, and take in the spectacular atmosphere of the Mediterranean Ocean.

Kimberly was our guide. A group of 5 met in Rome early in the morning to travel to the coast where a few others joined. Then we took a ferry to Ponza (reverse for the way back). Throughout the entire process, Kimberly was helpful and attentive and made sure we all could explore our surroundings with the time we had. The boat ride circles the entire island over 5 hours, stopping to swim a few times and to eat lunch cooked for us by the boat’s captain. Kimberly shared interesting facts about the island’s history along the way, and was always friendly, helpful and courteous, making sure everyone was enjoying themselves and the ride. Highly recommend this trip, take a day away from the city’s history to visit this picturesque island.

Absolutely best tour we went on. Our guide I believe her name was Kimberly, was organized and informative. The island is beautiful and the waters were amazing. Just can’t say enough about it. Hope we can go again someday.
