This place is a little off the tourist path, althought not far from the Colosseum, in the beautiful and trendy neighborhood of Monti. After a walk and an aperitivo in the gorgeous Via Panisperna you will discover one of the most famous restaurants in town: La Carbonara. Founded in 1906, this typical Osteria Romana will welcome you with fresh, seasonal and authentic Roman food: carciofi, cacio e pepe pasta, pistachio nut and tomato pasta and the best carbonara I have ever tried in my life (€6)! Every day a new traditional specialty is prepared: homemade gnocchi on Thursday, the famous baccalà (cod) on Friday… and to give a touch of love and originality to all those dishes, the fantastic mamma Teresa has been cooking for nearly 30 years!
Once, one of my French friends told me “La Carbonara is my favourite restaurant in Rome!” and in fact, the restaurant is famous all over the world for the quality of its products, the excellent food and its warm welcome! Don’t even think about having a stay in Rome without having dinner at La Carbonara! And you will need to book in advance.
