Opera House Hosts Events in their Traditional Auditorium and Under the Stars
Although the 86th edition of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Festival concluded its events on June 13, the Teatro del Maggio opera house will continue to dazzle audiences until July 23rd.
The opera The Elixir of Love, directed by Concetta Anastasi and Franceso Torrigani, will take the stage on June 20th and 21st. This show brings together the talents of both the Cherubini Conservatory and the Academy of Fine Arts to celebrate the function of theatre and performance. Tickets range from €15 to €20 and the performances begin at 8 pm.
The next performance of the season is the Florence Philharmonic’s performance titled Gioachino Rossini after the renowned 19th-century composer. Rossini wrote 39 operas and various choral ballads. Directed by Giampaolo Lazzeri, these songs will only be performed for one night on July 11th at 9 pm. Tickets are €10.
Rossini is again celebrated with a production of his opera The Barber of Seville from July 18th to July 24th. Directed by Damiano Michieletto and reprised by Andrea Bernard, this show is set on the Cavea del Teatro, an amphitheater atop the roof of the Maggio Opera House. Each performance, on the 18th, 20th, 22nd, and 24th, begin at 9 pm. Tickets range from €30 to €50.
The final event of the Maggio’s summer season is an orchestral concert of music from the Shakespeare play A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Directed by Korean conductor Hankyeol Yoon, this musical exploration into Shakespeare’s magical forest begins at 9 pm on July 23 at the Cavea del Teatro. Tickets range from €20 to €40.
