The historic Cinema Odeon in Florence becomes a bookstore

Florence’s Cinema Odeon has been renovated and rebranded as Giunti Odeon, a versatile venue that is both a cinema and a bookstore.

After the historic cinema-theater Odeon closed, there were several controversies among the Florentines. However, the new Giunti Odeon was inaugurated in November and seems to have found success, particularly among young students.

Initially, plans were made to close the cinema altogether. However, there was a shift in direction, and now the ground floor of the establishment operates as a bookstore with a café restaurant.

The café offers dishes from various gastronomic traditions, along with a rich pastry selection and high-quality coffee. They also serve non-alcoholic beverages, wines, and cocktails.

On the first floor, the cinema seats, stage, and large screen have been retained, supplemented by additional coffee tables for those who wish to study or read.

Giunti Odeon welcomes visitors every day, starting from 8:30 am as a bookshop and extending into the evening for film screenings.

The venue’s stage serves as a versatile space for book presentations, art exhibitions, workshops, and more.

This transformation represents a fusion of literature, cinema, and community engagement, breathing new life into a cultural landmark in Florence.
