Palazzo Strozzi hosts a major exhibition on one of the most prominent artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, Anselm Kiefer.
The exhibition in Florence, titled “Fallen Angels,” opens on 22 March 2024, and runs until 21 July 2024. The exhibition allows visitors to directly engage with the German artist through a journey among historical works and new productions, including a new piece created in dialogue with the Renaissance courtyard.
Curated by Arturo Galansino, General Director of the Palazzo Strozzi Foundation, the exhibition is a journey through allegories, figures, and forms that reflect on identity, poetry, historical events, and various philosophical thoughts.
Using painting, sculpture, installation, and photography, Anselm Kiefer’s art offers a path of introspection on the human being, exploring the connections between past, present, and future
Who is Anselm Kiefer
Born in 1945 in Donaueschingen, Germany, Anselm Kiefer is one of today’s most important and versatile artists. His artistic practice encompasses various media, including painting, sculpture, photography, installations, and architecture.
With his early works, he addressed the history of the Third Reich and grappled with post-war German identity. The mid-1990s marked a shift in his work–travels to India, Asia, America, and North Africa inspired an interest in the exchange of ideas between the Eastern and Western worlds.
An avid reader, Kiefer enriches his works with literary and poetic references.
